Allegra® is an anti-allergy medication used to relieve the unpleasant symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria, including sneezing, itchiness, runny nose, swelling, and rashes. Allegra® works by averting the actions of histamine — a substance produced by the body when it is exposed to pollen, pet fur or any other allergen. Not for use in individuals under 6 years of age.

Active Ingredient
Description
Allegra® is produced by Sanofi Aventis. The raw material is Fexofenadine that is an antihistamine with selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist activity.
Indications:
- seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), such as sneezing, itchy and runny nose and red, itchy and watery eyes;
- chronic idiopathic urticaria (long-term allergic skin reactions) such as itching, swelling, and rashes.
Note, dosages 120 mg, 180 mg are for patients 12 years of age and older, while 30 mg tablets may be used in patients 6-12 years of age and older.
MOA (mechanism of action):
Fexofenadine is a second-generation, long lasting H1-receptor antagonist (antihistamine) which has a selective and peripheral H1-antagonist action. Fexofenadine binds to H1-receptors in the gastrointestinal tract, large blood vessels, and bronchial smooth muscle. This inhibits the action of endogenous histamine, which subsequently leads to temporary relief of the negative symptoms like nasal congestion, watery eyes brought on by histamine. Fexofenadine exhibits no anticholinergic, antidopaminergic, alpha1-adrenergic or beta-adrenergic-receptor blocking effects.
Dosage
For adults with seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever): 120 mg taken once a day.
For children aged 6-12 years with seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever): 30 mg taken twice a day, in the morning and evening.
For adults with chronic urticaria: 180 mg taken once a day.
Note, dosages 120 mg, 180 mg are for patients 12 years of age and older, while 30 mg tablets may be used in patients 6-12 years of age and older.
Missing a dose
If you miss a dose you should spray it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Allegra® to compensate the missed dose.
Overdose
If an overdose occurs and you are not feeling well, stop taking the medication immediately. You should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Storage
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.
