Asthafen® is an antihistamine medication used to relieve negative symptoms allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis in individuals older than 3 years of age. Asthafen® blocks the actions of histamine, produced by the body when it is exposed to an allergen like pollen or animal fur.

Description
Asthafen® is produced by Torrent Pharma with the active ingredient Ketotifen — a fast acting non-competitive histamine antagonist.
Indications:
- treat symptoms of allergic rhinitis (inflammation of the mucous membranes in the nose), which may be caused by hay fever;
- treat symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis (inflammation of the mucous membranes in the eye), which may be caused by hay fever.
MOA (mechanism of action):
Ketotifen is a relatively selective, non-competitive histamine antagonist (H1-receptor) and mast cell stabilizer. Ketotifen inhibits the release of mediators from mast cells involved in hypersensitivity reactions.
Dosage
The usual adult dose is 1 or 2 mg (1 or 2 tablets) twice a day.
The usual dose for children aged over 3 years: 1 mg (1 tablet) twice a day.
Asthafen® should not be given to children under 3 years of age. The doctor may decide to start with a lower dose.
Missing a dose
If you miss a dose you should spray it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Asthafen® to compensate the missed dose.
Overdose
If an overdose occurs and you are not feeling well, stop taking the medication immediately. You should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Storage
Store at room temperature below 25 degrees C away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.
