Active Ingredient
Description
Rebetol is an anti-viral drug indicated for severe RSV infection, hepatitis C infection and other viral infections.
Rebetol is manufactured by Merck Sharp and Dome (a subsidary of Merck and Co., Inc.).
The active ingredient, Ribavirin is a professional grade drug, which when metabolized resembles purine RNA nucleotides. In this form it interferes with RNA metabolism required for replicationRebetol.
Ribavirin helps the immune system fight the virus and makes it harder for the virus to reproduce within the body.
Rebetol is prescribed in combination with other medications such as sofusbuvir and peginterferon alfa 2a/2b for preventing hepatitis C virus (HCV) cells from multiplying in your body.
Treatment of HCV genotypes 1, 2, 3 and 4 is possible with Rebetol, however it is never used on its own.
Dosage
Take Rebetol with food.
The recommended dose and duration of Rebetol ranges between 800mg to 1400mg/day depending on how much the patient weighs and the medicines that are used in combination.
- 800 mg/day: Take 2 Rebetol 200 mg tablets in the morning and 2 tablets in the evening.
- 1000 mg/day: Take 2 Rebetol 200 mg tablets in the morning and 3 tablets in the evening.

- 1400 mg/day: Take 3 Rebetol 200mg tablets in the morning and 4 tablets in the evening.
