Propecia is an FDA approved medication for the treatment and control of an enlarged prostate gland (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH). It is also taken for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia).

Active Ingredient
Description
Propecia contains the active ingredient Finasteride, a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor.
Finasteride helps to block the body's production of a male hormone testosterone which causes the prostate to increase in size. It also reduces androgen activity in the scalp that stops hair growth.
Propecia is also known as Finasteride, Appecia, Finotop, Proscar, Fincar, Finpecia, Finax, Finast, Finara, Finalo, Prosteride, Gefina, Appecia, Finasterid.
Propecia must only be taken by men.
Dosage
Propecia is available in tablets which should be taken orally with a full glass of water.
For best results, take Propecia every day at the same time for three months. Discontinue use if you do not notice an improvement in your symptoms after 12 months.
Propecia should be taken once a day.
If Propecia is being used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) the recommended daily dose is 5 mg per day.
If Propecia is being used to treat hair loss, the recommended dosage is 1 mg per day.
Missing a dose
Do not take double dose. If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule.
Overdose
If you overdose Propecia and you don't feel good you should visit your doctor or health care provider immediately.
Storage
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) away from moisture, light and heat. Keep container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medication after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children, preferably in a container that small children cannot open.
